VAN GOGH AND SUNFLOWERS

Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh’s paintings of sunflowers are among his most famous. He did them in Arles, in the south of France, in 1888 and 1889. Presently exhibited @ Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, one of those beautiful sunflower paintings can be yours on your recycled LOQI tote bag. 

After practising with different flowers, Vang Gogh chose the sunflower. Other painters at that time thought that sunflowers were a bit unrefined. But this is exactly what Vincent liked. To Van Gogh the sunflowers communicated ‘gratitude’ and his wish was to become known as the painter of sunflowers. This hope became true since sunflowers became synonymous with Van Gogh who emerged as one of the most famous figures in the history of Western art after his death.

He only painted during the last ten years of his life, during which period he created more than 2,000 works of art. Most of his 1,100 drawings and works on paper and nearly 900 oil paintings were produced during the last two years of his life.and yet he is still celebrated as one of the most influential artists in Western art.
